Our MSc Risk Management Online (Top-up) offers great flexibility. Students with relevant level 7 qualifications can study a single unit to gain their master’s. In addition, the course is taught online, allowing students across the globe to access the course.

Modules

During the MSc in Risk Management Online (Top-up), students will learn to critically engage with modern theories, strategies, and uses of risk management. In addition, tutors will ask students to apply their new knowledge to real-world problems in contexts relevant to their career aims.

Students will also gain advanced knowledge of the general situations which call for risk management. In addition, students will learn various methods for modelling and how to action risk management processes.  

The course will ask students to deep dive into their industry to gain a better sense of how risk factors evolve. In addition, students will be encouraged to consider the surrounding industries and the wider impacts of tech, law, and geo-politics on risk.

The MSc Risk Management Online (Top-up) includes key topics such as cyber risk, leadership, and modelling. Students will consider how global events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, result in new challenges for risk management.

Finally, students will work with lecturers to develop a research project that supports their career goals in the 60-credit thesis unit.

Study Options

The MSc in Risk Management is available as a full, 180-credit master’s, and a top-up master’s. Students with a level 7 qualification in risk management can join the top-up master’s. For this reason, these students only need to finish the 60-credit thesis module (Consultancy Report Project) to graduate.

Students with BA/BSc degrees in Risk Management (or similar) will join the full MSc degree. This includes 7 modules of study (listed above).

To finish the full master’s in Risk Management, students need 180 credits from the seven modules; this totals 1200 hours of learning.

To complete the top-up master’s in Risk Management, students need 60 credits from the Consultancy Project Report module.

Students can study our online MSc part-time or full-time. For this reason, they can continue to work while completing their degree at King’s.

Students on the full MSc can study and pay on a module-by-module basis.

Online Learning — How Does it Work?

All sessions on this distance learning programme are held on our VLE. As a result, students can join classes at their comfort via King’s cloud campus.

Degree content is available for on-demand viewing. In addition, students can organise meetings with their tutors to fit around their commitments.

Entry Requirements

Top-up Entry Route

For entry to the MSc in Risk Management Online (Top-up), students must have a relevant level 7 diploma. For example, the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Risk Management.

Full MSc Risk Management Entry Route

To join the full, 7-module MSc, students must have a BA/BSc degree (or equivalent) in Risk Management (or similar). Other level-6 qualifications are also considered for entry.

Risk Management experts are sought after employees. Their unique skill-set means they are often fast-tracked to senior positions, particularly in finance. And global events, such as the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, are making firms large and small value the analytical risk managers even more.

Typical career paths include manager and senior manager roles in the public sector or finance, with many risk specialists going onto the big 4 (PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, EY).

Finally, grads with a passion for research can continue their studies with an MPhil or PhD in risk-related topics.
